Shiloh Horse Rescue & Sanctuary is located in Sandy Valley, NV and regularly works with Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue to save horses across the nation. Shiloh's founder, Jill Curtis, visits the East Coast area of the country several times a year, along with her rescue partner, Sandy Vandenburg. During her time here she attends the New Holland Sales Stables, located in New Holland, Pennsylvania.

Shiloh has saved at least 30 horses from the kill pen at the New Holland sale and plans to return to the sale sometime in July of 2008. This will coincide with Shiloh's arrival for the meetings in Washington, D.C.

Shiloh also receives horses from the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program and so far have accepted 24+ thoroughbreds directly off of the race track in Finger Lakes, New York via the Executive Director Dr. Margaret Ohlinger.

Shiloh is dedicated to helping to save as many horses as possible from the awful fate that await so many at the auction. Shiloh regularly rescues horses from auctions and feedlots in California, Utah, Texas and other western states. Shiloh rescues thoroughbreds, mustangs, quarter horses, draft horses, mules, ponies, burros, standardbreds and any horse in need.

Shiloh Cares:

It is a 4 hour drive to the Cedar City, Utah auction from the rescue ranch and the Shiloh volunteers stay overnight to get to the auction bright and early on the day of the sale. Which is the 1st Thursday of each month. Jo was invited to attend one such auction in October of 2007 and Jo was shocked at the conditions there. She was informed that the conditions were an improvement over the conditions regularly seen.

Shiloh also attends auctions in California as well. Jo was invited to attend two auctions in November of 2007. Both auctions were held on the same day and again the driving was 4 hours each way from and back to the rescue ranch in Sandy Valley, NV. Also, a shocking event, compared to the auctions in the East. Horses with injuries that would be considered illegal to sell at New Holland and other East Coast horse auctions, are regularly beaten with sticks and prodded into the ring for bidding, whilst cowboys and wannabe's hoop and holler and laugh.

SIDE NOTE BY JO DEIBEL: Shiloh rescued a horse they call "Derby" after the Kentucky Derby. You might be asking yourself, how did he get that name? He was severely injured and was beaten through the sale. During the auctioning of this horse the auctioneer referred to him as (something to the effect of ) "looking to get to the Kentucky Derby". It is beyond reproach that any human being with a soul would be so cold and callous to an animal, especially an injured helpless animal. It is a disgrace and makes me ashamed to admit these people are the same species as I am.

After visiting Shiloh several times over the fall and winter of 2007, Jo has learned a great deal (but not nearly enough) about the conditions at the auctions and about the need for rescue in the West. Shiloh is the only rescue in Nevada that cares for so many horses. There are no other rescues in Nevada (there is another rescue located in NV but they are NOT endorsed by Angel Acres) that perform such wonderful work!

The animal control authory is currently modeling their program after the program that is run by Shiloh Horse Rescue.

The work that is done at Shiloh is amazing. Shiloh rescues horses from all over the nation. Angel Acres is proud to work with Shiloh and other outstanding rescues around the country.
